I installed Cubase 8.01 as directed on my Dell Optiplex 990 with a 64 bit Windows 7 system. If you're only a version behind, or something like that, maybe wait a while.

I'd say if you're stuck many versions behind (like Cubase 5) than the upgrade is totally worth the money. The EQ in a designated channel also now shows a real time frequency spectrum which aids in mixing. The look of it is more modern too and less like some Windows 95 design. Some of the nice things about this are the lack of "pop up" windows when you're going into the MIDI or Drum editors.
If you haven't witness the new UI and features for yourself, you will be very pleasantly surprised! It's a sharper look with some new features/layout that really aid in the recording workflow versus the older Cubase 5.

You can also install this on different machines, but you need the USB dongle to be plugged in if you want to "activate" the machine you're working on. Luckily enough for me, I received a free upgrade with this purchase to Cubase 9! That was a very welcome surprise. Stay tuned.Īfter using Cubase 5 for years I thought it was finally time to upgrade.
